When a download finishes: These settings allow you to configure what happens when a download completes.

In order for a downloaded file to be opened using an application in the list, its file type needs to be assigned to the correct application at the system level.

To assign a particular file type to a specific application, do the following:

  1. In the Finder, select an existing file of this type and then choose Get Info the File menu. If you have a two-button mouse, you can also right-click the icon and bring up a contextual menu that contains the proper action.
  2. In the resulting Info window, click the arrow next to the “Open with application” item in the panel.
  3. In this pane, select the application you would like to have open the file either by choosing it from the list in the drop down menu or by selecting the Other... item in the menu and navigating to the application in the resulting file selection dialog.
  4. Once you have the proper application selected, click the 'Change All...' button so that this change affects all files with the same extension or creator.
