Download to folder: This setting allows you to choose where files are downloaded to; by default, they go to your Desktop.
When a download starts: These settings allow you to configure what happens when a download begins.
-
Show the Downloads panel: Check this box if you want to automatically be shown the progress of a download as soon as you start it. Every time a download begins, the Downloads panel will be called to the front.
Bring the panel forward if it isn't frontmost: Check this box if you would like to have the panel automatically brought to the front when a download begins. This can be useful when the downloads window is already open but is obstructed by other windows.
When a download finishes: These settings allow you to configure what happens when a download completes.
-
Close the panel if no other downloads are active: Check this box if you want to automatically have the Downloads panel close when the last active download finishes transferring.
Open file if it belongs to one of these applications: With this option checked BumperCar will automatically open a completed download when its associated application is present in the box below. You can add and remove applications using the “Add...” and “Remove” buttons to the right of the list.
In order for a downloaded file to be opened using an application in the list, its file type needs to be assigned to the correct application at the system level.
To assign a particular file type to a specific application, do the following:
- In the Finder, select an existing file of this type and then choose Get Info the File menu. If you have a two-button mouse, you can also right-click the icon and bring up a contextual menu that contains the proper action.
- In the resulting Info window, click the arrow next to the “Open with application” item in the panel.
- In this pane, select the application you would like to have open the file either by choosing it from the list in the drop down menu or by selecting the Other... item in the menu and navigating to the application in the resulting file selection dialog.
- Once you have the proper application selected, click the 'Change All...' button so that this change affects all files with the same extension or creator.
